Customer Service Attitude Can't Be Jekyll & Hyde
We've been in the process the last few weeks of making a major purchase, so we've had a lot of direct contact with sales professionals. In most cases, they've been quite knowledgeable and friendly. That's what should be the minimum threshold of performance we all seek.
On the other hand, one salesperson has been shall we say a little inconsistent in the Customer Service Attitude department? When she thinks there's a solid shot at a sale, she's Miss Happy Happy Joy Joy Oh So Perky! But when things aren't going exactly to her hopes, she's possessed by Tardar Grumpy Cat. The answers get curt, the attitude perceptibly snippy.
Now for the sake of a good deal, I can deactivate Emotional Reaction Module 2.0. But as the instances of the Jekyll/Hyde behavior tally upwards, Why Reward Bad Behavior Module version 1.0 kicks in. Where's the tipping point to decide how much I have to save before the behavior becomes a moot point? I'm not sure I've found out yet.
But in our business we know it's critical to be consistent with our customer service attitude. While we don't have to be Happy Happy Joy Joy (trust me, that program was omitted when they installed Engineer 1.1), we do have to be pleasant. Professional. Courteous. Civil. You know, those positive attributes. We'll save the close in knife fighting for when it's just agents trying to get the advantage for our clients. Okay, just kidding, we've also found the best way to serve our clients is to NOT antagonize the agents on the other side. Keeping it professional and firm keeps negotiations going and the possibility of success. Upsetting the other side until emotion overrides logic? Not such a great choice.
