Should I Use The Real Estate Agent's Recommended Home Inspector?

Recently in a local community Facebook group someone made the comment to "never use the real estate agent's home inspector because all they care about is staying in the agent's favor and not finding anything major wrong with the home".

I've got to say if you have that concern about recommendations from your agent there's a much bigger problem than the choice of home inspector.  At the root of that comment is "don't trust your agent, all they care about is their commission and NOT you!".

The last thing we want for our buyers is a "rubber stamp" inspection that assures the buyers that all is well with the home.  Long term the truth of a home always comes out and the last thing we want is our buyers second guessing their purchase and thinking we sold them up the river with a home inspector that wasn't competent.

No, that's not what we want at all.  What we want is our buyers to have a thorough home inspection and have full knowledge of what is right and what is wrong about the home.  Be it new construction or a historic home, EVERY home has issues of concern.  A good home inspector is able to define those areas of concern so the buyer can make the best possible decision.  And sometimes that best possible decision is to call off the deal and restart the home search process.  As their agent, that's exactly what we want and expect to happen.  It's best for the clients long term, and what's best for the clients long term is best for us too.

And buyers ALWAYS have a choice of home inspectors.  Know that any home inspectors we recommend are recommended because they've served past buyers of ours well, and that's why we trust them to take care of our current buyers.
