We'd planned to attend the Cirque du Soleil's performance of OVO at Coney Island this afternoon, but the April showers, well there's been a LOT of them! So much so that the Ohio River has decided to claim much of Coney Island as it's own and performances have been canceled Friday...then Saturday...and late yesterday, today's schedule too.
And Cirque du Soleil does a good job with notifications. We got the email notification of the cancellation and then immediately thereafter the credit card refund notification. And something caught our eye on the email, just a little blurb towards the bottom about ONE DROP, a Cirque du Soleil supported NGO (non-governmental organization).
ONE DROP was founded by Guy Laliberte in 2007 in Montreal Canada. Guy is the founder of Cirque du Soleil. As you can guess, he's made an impressive amount of money over the years thanks to the success of his numerous performing troops, and this foundation was just one way he could give back.
In America and Canadian society we pretty much take clean water and sanitation as a given. Turn the tap, drinkable water is right there. Flush the toilet, and the waste is gone. We've traveled over the years and those givens for us are NOT present everywhere in the world. So ONE DROP's mission is to conduct projects that contribute to clean water and sanitation availability throughout the world. Right now, they have projects in Haiti, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras and plans for India. Learn more by visiting ONE DROP!
And something impressive to us? Guy pays personally for all administrative costs for ONE DROP. 100% of donations go specifically to the awareness projects and water projects ONE DROP supports. We LOVE that 100% usefulness of our donations!
So rather than keep all the money from our refunded tickets, we donated a portion to ONE DROP. Ironic that TOO much water for us would lead to a donation for them! So if you can help ONE DROP, please consider it! Because ONE DROP at a time, we can ALL make a difference!
A quote from our friend in North Carolina: "I do not share my stories of paying it forward for recognition. I share them so that others might be inspired to do what they can, when they can, where they can. No more, no less." Tish Lloyd, North Carolina REALTOR®
