Consider ALL Four Seasons When Buying Your Next Home!
Chances are when you're looking for a home in 2012 the grass will be green, the trees will be leaved, the weather will be nice and the last thing from your mind will be the other seasons. But since we don't live in San Diego and we DO have four seasons, you need to consider ALL four seasons when buying your Warren County home!
We'll start with the most obvious season for making you regret your purchase: WINTER! Unless you work from home, you're going to want to be able to leave your home daily! It starts with is there a garage or will you be digging your car out after every snow? How steep is your driveway? Straight or twisty curvy with trees or a steep drop off? Okay, you get to the end of your driveway, now what? How many miles to a main road? Some of our back country roads aren't much more than a single lane of paved road, and you can bet they're not high priority for visits by the plow guys! Is there more than one route out? Maybe one that doesn't have a steep hill and hairpin turns (take a drive down SR350 to the Little Miami River, would you do that on an icy day? I don't think so!).
For the fall season consider the trees. If you don't like raking leaves and aren't going to hire out the work, consider how many leaves are going to need raked. We're surrounded by woods, so keeping up with the leaves can get pretty intensive. Those trees are laughing their bark off watching us try to push the fallen leaves back into the woods! Within hours of cleaning up, you'd wonder if we'd been there at all!
The spring season brings risk of floods with all those flowers, so take a hard look at your properties grading. Is the water going to run INTO your home, or AWAY? Is that little trickle of a creek under your driveway going to overflow and trap you in? (Don't laugh, we have friends that routinely had major rainstorms block their driveway).
For summer, just how much grass are you willing to mow? Now remember those days flirting with triple digit temps and humidity so thick you're soaked in a few steps? So again, unless you're going to pay someone to take care of it, how much time and energy do you want to devote to yard maintenance?
Now the flip side of the equation, maybe all of these things appeal to you! You like the privacy and beauty of the woods. Mowing the grass is your thinking time! Planting and tending the garden brings you peace and staring at the autumn colors and watching the leaves fall is about the most peaceful thing ever! Maybe you're from the Dakotas and those few inches of snow we get just tickles! Snow?? Pfffft! That's NOT snow!!
But before you write that purchase contract, consider all four seasons to make sure you won't be having regrets later!
