2012 is here. Now part of me looks at any calendar change as just an arbitrary event. Are we really that different from 11:59 p.m. 12/31/11 to 12:01 a.m. 1/1/12? But yet those minutes do have impact on us. Doubt it? Just ask Uncle Sam! The IRS cares, Junior shows up at 11:59 p.m. and you got another 2011 tax deduction! 12:01, well maybe you'll win a prize for first kid of 2012!
And we see changes elsewhere. This morning discovered my ex-favorite radio station has gone COUNTRY! Now I understand that choice from a business perspective as there are more potential listeners to that genre than my preferred 80s/90s rock, so I've got to adjust to that change. Find another radio station, play more CDs, but adjust I must!
Real estate is a continually changing business and one of our ongoing tasks is evaluating the latest and greatest technology and marketing ideas to decide if they're the next over-hyped, shiny bauble, or REALLY have true potential to help our clients. An obviously what works in one part of the country may not work as well here, so that adds another factor to our evaluation process.
And of course another challenge for any REALTOR® is helping our clients understand that things that worked in the past may no longer be valid ways of doing business today. For example, those print ads in the newspaper! They did provide a valid service, but with the rise of the Internet, they've lost their place.
Stop and consider, do you remember when Cincinnati had TWO daily papers? The Enquirer for the morning and The Post for the evening. Well The Post is long gone, and have you watched the page count shrink on The Enquirer to the point your probably can't even line a bird cage with a single issue?
