This morning started pretty much the same as every morning. Get up, and get the Chihuahuas outside to take care of business. I'd noticed last night that our Lenten roses were blooming so I wanted a snap a picture. I glanced up our driveway and noticed that my day might be going a bit off my planned agenda!
Some storms had rolled through last night and apparently one of the dead ash trees (the beetles have taken their toll on our woods) had decided to snap off. The tree was too big to think about trying to drag it down off where it hung in the other tree to the right, so we were stuck at home until that tree was removed.
Now if I'd had to call a tree service on a Sunday morning, I suspect we might have been waiting for quite awhile. But the good news for us is I have a chainsaw (or two) because you can't live in the woods like we do and not be prepared for the occasional treefall and its aftermath. All I had to do was wait for a decent hour to be making a bunch of racket, don hearing protection, coat and gloves, then fire up the chainsaw and make a few cuts. A handful of minutes later the tree was cleared. Note to self: the blade is dull, better take care of that before next use!
Now as a real estate agent I'm continually reviewing the tools I use and the knowledge I have.
It's critical that I stay sharp, especially in our patio home niche. Periodic checks of builder websites are key to making sure the builders aren't "sneaking" in another patio home community without me knowing. I want my clients to have ALL the options!
I've got the tools and software to be mobile. Contracts on the go? We can do that. Out of state buyer? We'll Skype stream the showing. Aerial maps and other info? I have no shortage of data plan!
Some things are beyond my expertise (or just not best use of my time) so I hire out. I've got two professional photographers to shoot our listings, one for the Dayton area and the other for the Cincinnati area. Need a good loan officer? I've got one. Home inspector? Got that too.
And because I've been an engineer/real estate agent for almost 14 years, I've got a lot of experience at dealing with the unexpected. And since I'm an engineer and Navy vet, getting excited when something goes a bit sideways isn't my thing. I'm a problem solver, so if there's a way to get from Point A to B and that's what my client wants, I'm going to do my best to get there.
I've got the tools and the training to take care of my clients.
