2014 Ohio School Report Cards Released
As real estate agents we see time and again schools as being one of the primary factors that home buyers use to select WHERE they want to live. It's also been clearly demonstrated that the reputations of schools and home values are deeply intertwined. Lower rated schools mean less demand and home prices drop (or at least don't increase at the same rate as other school districts).
Over the last couple of years Ohio has transitioned the officially issued Ohio School Report Cards from the previous grading categories of Excellent with Distinction, Excellent, Effective, Continuous Improvement, Academic Watch and Academic Emergency to the new A-F grading system. Just like "regular" report cards, right?
But these report cards are a bit more complicated than just a single letter grade or two, with comprehensive categories and multiple scoring. Click Ohio School Report Card A-F scoring to get the official State of Ohio Department of Education explanation.
The Cliff 's Notes version, A to F grades are given in subcategories of:
- Achievement (how well are students performing on the state tests?)
- Progress (do students progress more or less than expected for a year's study?)
- Gap Closing (making sure students aren't progressing more slowly due to income, ethnicity, etc.)
- Graduation Rates
- And other categories, some being developed still with full implementation by 2016
Within our primary market of Warren County we've been fortunate to have some of the best rated public schools in the state of Ohio (and for those seeking private schools, good options there too!).
While you can visit the Ohio School Report Card website and search by district or school, we're going to save you some time and provide you direct links to the primary Warren County school districts along with the school district's two Achievement metrics (Performance Index and Indicators Met).
Without further ado the links to Warren County school district report cards:
Carlisle Local (B/A)
Franklin City (B/C)
Kings Local (B/A)
Lebanon City (B/A)
Little Miami Local (B/A)
Mason City (A/A)
Springboro Community (B/A)
Wayne Local (B/B)
Now by themselves, these report cards still can't tell you whether or not a school district is the RIGHT district for your family, especially if kids are in need of special programs or attention. The school report cards are a great starting point, but might not be the best final decider for what is right for you. Investigate further and visit the schools to find out more.
