Warren County Ohio Real Estate News and Observations: Paying It Forward: The Ride for Roswell Sponsorships

Paying It Forward: The Ride for Roswell Sponsorships

Paying It Forward:  The Ride for Roswell Sponsorships

Let's just start by saying I freakin' HATE cancer!  It's a nasty disease with many versions, but the bottom line is there's no "good" version that you want to hear your doctor say you or your loved one's have.  There aren't many things in life that truly scare me, but hearing THAT news about myself or someone I care about?  Yes, THAT would do it.

There's probably none of us that have not lost quite a few friends and relatives to this horrible disease.  And for those that recover, the specter of it's return is always there.  The toll extends FAR beyond just the actual people afflicted, so making this disease go away in all it's forms would make me a pretty happy camper.

So when one of my friends in Buffalo New York tells me he's participating in The Ride for Roswell a some years ago and needs sponsors, OF COURSE I'm adding my name to his list!  Chip in some cash, use my day job's two for one dollar match to max out the value, and repeat every year that Rich wants to ride.  We're sponsors for four years so far, and as long as he's game for it, we'll be supporting his efforts.

The Ride for Roswell
is just one of many fundraisers for Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY.  They're America's first cancer center, founded in 1898 and is a National Cancer Center "comprehensive cancer center".  They help set national standards for cancer care, research and education.

I hope their work in conjunction with all the other cancer fighters in the world does find the cures needed to stop this dreaded disease.

A quote from our friend in North Carolina: "I do not share my stories of paying it forward for recognition. I share them so that others might be inspired to do what they can, when they can, where they can. No more, no less." Tish Lloyd, North Carolina REALTOR®

I'd like to join your "I hate cancer group". I had a very rough 12 months losing 3 friends and relatives to this horrible disease. I just hope a cure is found in my lifetime, enough is enough.

Barbara, For me personally, it's the participation part that gets a bit rougher with the two job balance.  Sometimes the best I can do is donate some money to the cause.

Cynthia, You've got just cause to belong to the group.  I'm hitting that age point where many of my peers are starting to be effected.  Of the 30 guys I graduated Annapolis with, two have had cancer within the last couple of years.  Both have beat it so far, and I hope it stays that way for the sake of them and their families.

You certainly know where CA and I stand on this horrific disease.  This is, indeed, a very awesome event you are supporting; thank you.

The "C" word can be quite frightening............marvelous of you to be so supportive.  Well done BLiz.

Tish, Just one of the many "it's the least we can do" kind of things.  So many places that need help, so if one of my friends is taking an active role, I'll be happy to chip in and make it a bit better.  Liz did a walk a thon for brain tumors a couple of years ago. Her brother John is two and 1/2 years clear so far.

Roger, It's one of those things I hope to never deal with again with any of my friends and family, but I know that's unlikely until the cures start rolling in.

My mother-in-law lost her bout with Cancer just over a year ago.  A wonderful woman who fought hard to the end...Oh how I wish there had been a cure!  Great cause Bill!

Anita, It's obviously far better today than it was decades ago, but it's not nearly as good as it needs to be.  Just glad to be able to support somehow.

Bliz ~ my lender was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.  I am so proud of her.  She has been such a trooper going through chemo.  There are several worthy causes out there that need all the financial supportthey can get.  It's hard to choose one over the other.  I guess you chose what hits closest to home.

Good for you! I don't know anyone whose life has not been touched some how by cancer! GREAT Pay it Forward!!

Bill and Liz:  Everyone I know has been touched and impacted by cancer.  You are supporting a VERY worthwhile campaign.

Posted by Valerie Zinger, Home Organizer (House Proud Ottawa-Ontario-Canada) over 7 years ago

Dawn, I hope your lender recovers fully!  I guess for me, what's important to my friends becomes important to me.  That helps decide where limited resources can go.

Joni, Rich is doing the real work, just happy we can help long distance :)

Valerie, It would be the very lucky person indeed who hadn't had their lives impacted somehow by cancer.

Cancer, Hate it, hate it, hate it!  And admire you for sponsoring your friends ride for 4 years.  Wish he didn't have to ride at all for this cause, but God Bless him for doing it.  And you for paying it forward.

Cinnamon, I look forward to the day it's no longer a concern, but in the interim, glad that Rich is out there pedaling for us to support!

Cynthia, Thanks for your help getting us there!
