Warren County Ohio Real Estate News and Observations: As A Real Estate Agent, There ARE Some Things I'm Lousy At!

As A Real Estate Agent, There ARE Some Things I'm Lousy At!

"The perfect is the enemy of the good."  Voltaire

I'm human so I'm inherently imperfect.  I'm an engineer so the emotional stuff is something I've had to learn and listen harder for.  I'm good at talking people down off the real estate ledge, but I might not always detect they're heading there!

But the perk of being an engineer is that I understand Voltaire's intent.  The dual career life means continually making choices, knowing that something might not be PERFECT, but recognizing it's good enough to be helpful.  A PERFECT review of a community might be 10 times more information than a home buyer might want, so finding the right balance, determining when GOOD is achieved, it's a critical aspect of being efficient and proficient.  Measure and adjust over time, so the next effort is better, even if still not perfect.

Now there are some things I feel I'm very good about (just ask me about Greater Cincinnati patio homes!) and there are other things I'm not so good at.

For instance, I'm terrible at asking for reviews from clients.  It's something I KNOW I should do.  I KNOW many consumers love them and the absence of them next to my name on (pick your site) might just keep some potential clients from calling me.  And still I tend not to ask.  Risky business, right?

But sometimes a client REALLY wants to help us out as a way of saying "Thanks", and there are really two main ways they can do that.

Of course remembering us and recommending us to friends and family is absolutely HUGE!  No amount of mailings, phone calls from us or anything else we do can top that trusted recommendation.

And secondly, a review can be super helpful.

So for the recent client that left the following review, special thanks go to Amanda and Victor.  It was my privilege, and you can bet as a veteran I have special satisfaction in helping military home buyers and sellers.

"Wow. I don't know where to start. We are a military family. So, we had military orders to move. We've never bought a house, and had no idea about the process that goes along with it. Luckily, we did our research and chose to find a realtor to use along side with our builder company. We did everything long distance, so Bill was our eyes and ears and he is AWESOME!!!! We were so thankful for finding Bill and having him be apart of our journey. It was an amazing first time buying experience, because he was so wonderful, keeping us updated on everything, doing the walk throughs, Skyping us, letting us know all the details. There is no doubt that William (Bill) Spear is a very motivated individual who absolutely loves his job. He is very easy to communicate with and always willing to talk on the phone, email, Facebook and or text! Along with his desire of what he does, there comes a ton of experience and knowledge. My husband and I learned so much about real estate and the do's and don'ts, and what to keep an eye out for. It is obvious that Bill is not just concerned with selling you a house or making commission; he has a passion for finding people a home and spreading valuable knowledge. Without a doubt I would not hesitate to use him again if we ever sold our home, which I doubt will ever happen as it's our dream home ?? I do want to mention that we found him by looking towards Mason Ohio area, but we decided to move to Northern Kentucky and we were afraid that we weren't going to be able to use Bill. But it all worked out since he is also licensed in Kentucky, so we just think the world of him. I highly recommend him!!"

And back to Voltaire's quote, sometimes what we as agents think is  good is perfect to the client!

Congrtulations on a beautiful testimonial. It's even sweeter because you didn't ask - right?

Like you, I fail to ask. What makes us such chickens?

Good morning Liz and Bill Spear
Interesting dialogue about the balance between perfect and good.  And, the perception of good and perfect varies for each person, doesn't it?

Perfection is in the mind of the beholder, Bill!

These clients certainly know that you are a perfectionist, a wonderful communicator and a detailed 'teacher' of your profession. They nailed you in that testimonial and this beholder thinks you're perfect too, Bill!

This is a great post and thank you for the reminder that I am not the only one who has a few shortcomings which I must work on (especially when it comes to my business)!!

Here from Carol's Second Change Saturday. If we do the best for everyone all of the time, that's about as perfect as it gets. It sounds as if you have the right focus.

That is a wonderful testimonial. And yes, we are all imperfect.

Hi Bill

That's a wonderful testimonial, but I'm not at all surprised. I think that being aware of our imperfections is important...and we all have them...is key to being our best, and realizing it's part of our human-ness.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
