A Gut Punch Out Of The Blue

powAs much as I'd like all the news I deliver as a real estate agent to be great news, that's not reality.

Not every home for sale gets swamped with offers above asking price.

Sometimes a buyer's offer loses out in multiple offers.

Sometimes something happens during the process that prevents the successful sale of a home.

Those are all things that can happen.  Some you expect, but the worst are the ones that come in out of the blue.

POW!!!

The deal that looked golden gets derailed.

But we were just a week away from closing!!

But what about that preapproval letter?

Loan denied?

Shouldn't this have been identified at the BEGINNING of the process?

All questions to ask.

A chance to seek alternatives.

The realization that there's no saving this deal.

A different lender is going to have the same answer.

Only the passage of time can fix this.

 

Take the punch, then deliver the bad news.

Not using email to relay the bad news.  No using pixels to give the seller the bad news.

Take the gut punch, then have to pass it on.

Real estate, it's not all fun and games.

Some days are better than others.

That's the worse! So sorry to hear that your deal fell through. You have the exact attitude though - suck in a breath, deliver the bad news, and then regroup. I hope everything works out. Wishing you all the best.

Sometimes it just doesn’t work out. You can only do so much to keep a transaction together. The only cure is the next successful closing.

Liz and Bill Spear My version of that is when I learn clients have backslid enough that it seems there's been no progress after all. It's discouragin and painful and you can only continue to encourage them to remember that they have and can make improvements.

That's terrible. Sometimes these things do happen, and it is an awful moment when that conversation with the client has to take place.

Hi Bill,
No one can expect to go through life without a few (or a lot) of sucker punches out of the blue.  I find the best approach is to deal with them head on then move on.
